Title of Quilt: “A Little Monkey Business”
By: Karen Fisher, Tucson
This little piece was completely inspired by the monkey in
my piece of fabric. I added batiks from Hawaii (a gift), silk
plant leaves, and feathers, beads and sparkly yarns from the
fly fishing shop (my husband fishes when we visit Greer.
This quilt tied for second place. |

Title of Quilt: “All God’s Creatures Need a Stash to Get
Through Winter”
By: Shari Bermele, Show Low
This is a table mat log cabin with squirrel gathering his
winter stash. Partly free-motion quilted. Challenge fabric
used in last log on light side and in dimensional oak
leaves, and label. |

Title of Quilt: “Boots”
By: Ruth Goodmanson, Apache Junction
I love cowboy boots. This fabric seemed just right for the
boot tops. I enjoy outline quilting and embellishments. |

Title of Quilt: “Fond Memories”
By: Susan Erhart, Eagar
Early one morning I came across the challenge fabric-could
only think of something “Halloween” to do with it and then
found a diner card menu my dad gave me. He saved
everything-it is dated 7-13-1906. The mountains reminded me
of the fabric and that started it all. This quilt won first
place. |

Title of Quilt: “Kauai Rooster”
By: Ruth Tyree, Tucson
When we visited Kauai, Hawaii, we found the island
characterized by a large population of free-running chickens
in the most beautiful combinations of colors-not at all like
the conventional colors we are used to seeing. They were
beautiful! In assessing the possibilities of the challenge
fabric I thought it would make a beautiful Kauai rooster
greeting each new day! |

Title of Quilt: “Monkey Shines”
By: Kay Wild, Greer
I keep seeing that cute little monkey sitting under a big
leaf in this challenge fabric. He is peeking out to see all
the shop-hoppers! |

Title of Quilt: “My First three Ichos”
By: Lorraine Robertson, Lakeside
I used a new pattern I got from Grannie G. Applique called
“Three Ichos”. They are for oriental fabric, but is working
great with batik bights. |

Title of Quilt: “Pygmy Fire Celebration”
By: Candace Tomlinson, Prescott
The challenge fabric looked like the jungle was on fire and
pygmies were dancing. It seems they are happy to have a
source of fire for their use and looking forward to the
rebirth of the jungle. This quilt tied for second place. |

Title of Quilt: “Snake in the Grass”
By: Jody Gagnon, Cottonwood
Saw a New York Minute variation in Fons and Porter’s “Love
of Quilting” magazine. I decided to try the block. How to
assemble? Took grandchildren to the zoo-and saw the snakes!
AHA! |
